Fight the "Pandemic" to greet the dawn

Published:2022-04-22

Xu Yongjian, the ideological and political teacher of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and life instructor of the X84 dormitory building, is a "father and mother" at the same time to many students and considerate and thoughtful at work, offering meticulous services. He stayed in the building to fight the pandemic side by side with students after the outbreak. A wave of pandemic pressed the pause button of school, and closed teachers and students. Let’s walk into X84 and recall this unforgettable time with professor Xu.

On the morning of March 9, I got up earlier and received a duty-calling message of returning to school as I was still worried about the news that certain teacher's apartments were blocked the day before. So, I casually packed some clothes and went back with my suitcase, without spending one second hesitating. A cordon blocked the door of the teacher's apartment. A staff reminded that once I went out I would not be allowed to come back for a while. I heard similar reminds again when I entered the school gate. In that case, I could not leave the school. That bad-suggesting did panic me, but still, I made no bones about the decision, as I had to shoulder on my duties and responsibility to accompany students in this battle.

I spent my first day busy distributing notices, sorting out student information, arranging and delivering materials, etc. It wasn't until at night, lying on the floor of my office, that I realized what an unusual day it was. Browsing Moments on WeChat, reading companions braving pandemic risks, I can't help but thinking that: every meager strength was converging into the pandemic-fighting troop. There were figures who were poised to bracing for upcoming wave and stories following the heroic move of "leaving families for the good picture", despite difficulties and hardships. Ideological and political teachers "raised the flag and brightened their identities", took the lead in the front line, enhanced the battle fortress of the party organization, and assumed their role of safeguarding students as party members, while set a good example. In the meantime, student party members responded to the call, threw themselves into the breach, signed up enthusiastically, and wrote their loyalty to the party and the people with actions.

On March 10, the second day of school closure, everything was running in order. Reassuring colleges, student party members were escorting the school on the way to take nucleic acid test, and at the window of the cafeteria. Such a group of party members who were charging forward and held in taking responsibility specifically and strongly stressed the image of party members, surrounding us with the strength to move forward and the vitality of invincibility.

All student buildings initiated a totally enclosed management starting from March 11. That is, every building became a separately running unit. I moved into the student dormitory building of X84 and served as a "building manager" the moment I received the notice by the Academic Advisory Committee. I teamed up with 205 first-year medical students and two cleaning ladies, who helped to clean up a dormitory. We received beddings from the living area. Real was the happiness lying on the bed. I was far more than lucky compared to faculties staying at the academy who had to sleep on the conference table in the sleeping bag, or nest on the sofa or chairs put together.... Constantly flooding-in challenges, however, dawned on me that it was a tough battle. How to build a work system efficiently and quickly in face of a completely unfamiliar environment and 205 meet-and-greet students? How to strictly and orderly implement the school's management regulations and operations? All required self-exploration in the absence of reference.

On the basis of the well-built working framework of the head of the building, each floor and dormitory, I clarified their respective responsibilities on time, enriched the backbone of the students, arranged the management and operation, and secured living in the building, including: three meals distribution, cleaning, wastes disposal, material distribution, sterilization, data statistics and other basic works. All progressed on the right track in an orderly manner.

I wish that was all taking to be an ideological and political teacher. In the face of the closed building, how to comfort students facing difficulty in meet their needs? How to appease the nervousness of students when there were close-contact students waiting for quarantine? How to ease the delicate atmosphere in the buildings when all neighbors got transferred? All required front-line efforts. Meanwhile, I had to be psychologically prepared, take care of all my domestic and foreign students, and balance tasks scheduled differently. Nothing short of packing up the mood makes it possible to face daily challenges while dealing with the countdown cycle of reset.

More than I did, every faculty and student contributed meticulous effort to cooperate and fight with the students, and perform respective "responsibility", thereby upholding security in the building. Fortunately, students were well-behaved and obedient. They have the spirit of self-discipline, decisiveness, and restraint as medical students, and were highly cooperative in tasks, ensuring the stable and orderly daily operation.

On The morning of March 9, I received a phone call from the school saying that the D16 building had been sealed and controlled due to the epidemic. For a while, the dazzling red police line filled the campus and buildings with a tense atmosphere of epidemic prevention. As D16's life coach, I was immediately on the same side as the 700 + sisters in the building. As the largest building in Minhang Campus, D16 accommodates 695 female freshmen from 20 colleges and 6 staff members. The students are highly intensive, and the control is also facing unprecedented pressure. In order to cut off the chain of transmission of the virus, we immediately implemented the instructions to stay in the building.

Unconsciously, today is the 14th day of D16 building closure. During the nearly half a month, after the tortuous exploration stage, teachers, aunts and students have worked together to make the building ecology better and better. Generally speaking, the state of students can be divided into three periods:

Stage 1: Suddenly seal the building, loose attitude, at a loss

Faced with the sudden closure of the building, especially as one of the first closed loop buildings, I was in charge of arranging the healthy life of over 700 sisters. I felt unprecedented pressure. There are a lot of complicated affairs in the building, such as garbage collection, closed bathroom, closed laundry room, shortage of temporary supplies, centralized cooking, sudden diseases and a series of problems that need to be coordinated and solved. Fortunately, before the epidemic, the life park assisted the building to establish a three-level management system of floor leader, floor leader and dormitory leader. In the face of the epidemic test, I quickly gathered these three forces and established a group for communication and division of labor, so as to serve the whole building to maintain operation. As there are all female freshmen in the building, there are many courses and the arrangement is compact, and the energy of the long floor is limited, so it is difficult to maintain the healthy operation of the building. Therefore, dormitory leaders on each floor are further arranged to perform daily tasks in turn to reduce personal burden and ensure the normal completion of everyone's homework tasks.

The rush of the first day was exhausting, and the sweater was soaking wet. At this time, some students did not realize the severity of the epidemic situation, and their awareness of epidemic prevention was still weak. At the same time for the closure of the number of days, the specific situation of the building inside the unknown let them also feel confused and worried, especially the building public bathroom can not open the problem, to manage the whole building girls brought great resistance. To ease students' anxiety in this stage, I do protection, targeted visit a bedroom, at the same time through WeChat telephone and other ways to understand the students, one by one, calm, patience to explain why sealing building school closure, the risk of open bathroom, and guide you how to use the sink, toilet structures, simple and easy to maintain personal hygiene in the bathroom. After a lot of patient and careful communication, students realized the risk and special nature of the building, and encouraged more students to comply with the requirements of the school's epidemic prevention and control. At this moment, I feel very happy and lucky, because I met D16, a group of considerate girls.

Stage 2: Early morning reexamination, abnormal discovery, appropriate medicine

After two days of nucleic acid screening, several students in the building were asked to come out of the building for re-testing in the early morning of March 12. I and my aunt in the building wore simple protective clothes and medical masks at the first time, sprayed the whole floor, and positioned the floor as a special floor for control. At the same time, the whole building began to recruit volunteers to do a good job of protection, for the daily work and life of special control floors to carry out services.

To ensure that every dormitory has conditions for simple sanitizers, I organized the staff inside the building in time to play "don't wait don't rely on the spirit of" first let students will mineral water bottles in the door, put the disinfection tablets in big bubble water bottle, one bedroom to distribute disinfectant, then urged to guide students to conduct a comprehensive disinfection of indoor floor and common items.

Thanks to the timely response of the staff and students in the building, the virus transmission chain was quickly cut off, and the students' nervous mood was dispelled by a series of orderly work in the building. They firmly believe that as long as they stay indoors and fully cooperate with the school's epidemic prevention and control, they will be able to quickly defeat the Novel Coronavirus. It is the belief that we will unite and win the battle, and the action that I organized the whole building to fight against the epidemic, which guaranteed the health and safety of all students in D16 Building.

Stage 3: Keep calm and fight the epidemic with all your might

The closure of the building for nearly half a month and the daily release in Shanghai made the students deeply aware of the seriousness of the situation and better understand the hardships and difficulties of all the staff. Every day in D16, I reviewed the previous day's work and optimized the management process. With the optimization of the management process, some self-organization phenomena among students have reappeared in the D16 building. The organizational structure in the building runs in an orderly way, and all actions follow the command. Students do not go to bed when they are not necessary, and unconsciously, the building has entered a high degree of autonomy.
