MAI Memory | Impression on Moscow: In the Snow-wrapped and Cold Season

Published:2022-01-17

How time flies! It has been two months since we, more than 20 students in our class, arrived in Moscow. We still clearly remember looking at the outskirts of Moscow on the plane, a typical European town, quietly lying on the edge of the Moscow River. As we set off from Shanghai two months ago, the temperature was still 15 degrees, which plummeted to 0 degrees when we got off the plane. However, the temperature outside had dropped to minus 20 degrees last night.

When it comes to the most indelible impression the city of Moscow has left on me, it must be snow. “The cloud seems to be frozen in the snow-wrapped and cold season”, I think this is an extremely accurate comment on Moscow. The dark clouds last night will become the snow that has not been trampled on the early morning. Since the student dormitory in MAI is next to the campus, we only need to walk a few hundred meters every day to the classroom. The offline courses started from the second week of arrival. Holding a cup of hot coffee, passing by the snow-covered path, sitting in a heated classroom for class, what an enjoyable thing!

On weekends, you may go for an early walk in the park, wearing a mask and warm clothes, when there are not many people. There are numerous natural parks to explore and enjoy the snowscape.

There are also plenty of well-known buildings in Moscow, many of which are open to the public. Even the Kremlin, where President Vladimir Putin works, offers free admission. But if you happen to miss the free open day, it’s also an unforgettable experience to walk around the palace in snow that can drown your ankles, or soak up the culture of Moscow in Alexander Park.

As long as strictly abiding by the epidemic prevention regulations and preparing for personal protection under the relatively severe epidemic in Moscow, our life of studying abroad can still be colorful. Up to now, all of us are in good health. It is inevitable to encounter difficulties far from home, but our studies and life are on the right track after a quick adaptation. We’d like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the teachers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and MAI for their help. Meanwhile, we also hope that our fellow underclassmen can dedicate to improving their cooking skills and Russian study so as to prepare for coming to MAI.
