Bio:

Prof. Shen received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Michigan in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He was a recipient of 1991 US Air Force Research Initiation Award, 1995 ALCOA Science Foundation Award in manufacturing process RMS design, and The Ohio State University College of Engineering Lumley Research Award in 2001. He has published over 125 papers, technical reports, and book chapters in the areas of on-line health monitoring/diagnostics and active control of manufacturing processes and cells, structural integrity and reliability, manufacturing process design & reliability, and predictive/proactive maintenance. Other experiences include appointments as a Visiting Scholar at University of Tokyo in 1997, a Senior Visiting Scientist at the AFRL (the Air Force Research Labs) in 2000, and a Visiting Scholar at Institut de Genie Atomique, Lausanne, Switzerland in 1999. He have received thirty research grants/awards from NSF, OAI (Ohio Aerospace Institute), AFRL, NASA, DAGSI, FAA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, ALCOA, and EWI (Edison Welding Institute). He is a Fellow of ASME, and associate editor of ASME Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power.
