From 5th to 6th May of 2014, David W. Zingg, Director of University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS), visited the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTUSAA) with his delegation. Both parties had intense talks about talent training and research cooperation, and eventually signed an agreement for an international experimental class.Guo Xinli, the Executive Secretary of SJTU University Council, also met the guests. Vice President Huang Zhen, as well as David Zingg, launched the SJTUSAA-UTIAS Joint Research Center.

There has been a long history of cooperation between SAA and UTIAS. According to the international experimental class agreement, both parties reached a consensus to develop ‘Bachelor of Engineering – Master of Engineering – One Entrance (BMOE) Program’ at SJTUSAA, where selected SAA students joining the direct-entry BMOE program are expected to receive the Bachelor of Engineering degree at SJTU, the Master of Engineering degree at the University of Toronto, as well as the Master of Engineering degree at SJTU. The first class of SAA BMOE program is aimed at starting in the fall semester of 2014.

During the visit, David Zingg delivered an informative lecture entitled From Aerodynamics Analysis to Design Using Computational Fluid Dynamics.

The University of Toronto, founded in 1827, is a world-famous research university. UTIAS, established in 1949, is an advanced research facility for aeronautics and aerospace engineering. The institute has initiated achievements on aerodynamics, propulsion, flight control, navigation and space control.
